sweat and tyres on rain-rutted gravel
I got another 50km ride in this week (without a halfway BLT this time—instead, an eyewateringly expensive smoothie at The Sea Ranch Lodge which struggled to power my battle against roaring headwinds on the way home). After that, though, my training efforts somewhat petered out. I spent the second-half of the week in our county’s dry and sunny interior, cycling to the beginning of Bumps End road (where you can get two bars of LTE) for daily updates with my other half. One day, I biked along the dirt track for as long as I could without risk of getting shot — past an olive farm, fir-covered ridgelines, burnished meadows and, possibly, an illegal grow. My new gravel tyres loved this adventure, the Jamis’s heavy steel frame (and my burning legs and gasping lungs) did not.
